Hue (or actually its abandoned waterpark)

We left Hoi An in the morning and took a bus to Hue. And what a bus it was! Instead of two rows of seats as normally there were three rows of bunks. And we got the best spots – in the back. Such a comfy 4 hour ride.

In Hue we left our stuff in the hostel (where it seemed that we had a closet for the room), rented bikes (the same kind as we had in Hoi An for free) and headed for the not-so-official attraction – the abandoned waterpark with a giant dragon.

The waterpark was not that far away, around 8km, but it took us a while to get there with the confusing streets and the scary Viatnamese traffic. We were riding the bikes on the same lane as buses, cars, trucks and scooter, which is the normal way in Vietnam.

We also took (unknowingly) the scenery route – it  winded past village houses and gardens and ended in the back side of the waterpark. We dragged our bikes to something that looked like a forbidden path. It was paved but the pavement had already cracked in many places and in some parts almost invisible under dried leaves. It took us first to some pools and waterslides, that were already covered with graffities.

Kids’ pool. Note the crocodile on the side. I didn’t notice it when taking the photo.
The other side of kids’ pool. Maybe the mushroom wasn’t once so psychedelic?

Next we headed to the main part of the waterpark – the giant dragon, that once witheld an aquarium. The aquarium was covered in shattered glass, but we could still climb to the dragon’s head for some views!

There were very little people wandering around and some teenagers making some photoshoot and listening to music. Soon, however, this place will also fill up with tourists, since one vendor had already found his way there, selling cold drinks and charging for parking.
