After Cameron Highlands we decided to go to Pulau Pangor, which one of the hostel owners in Kuala Lumpur recommended. That meant that we had to first take a bus from Cameron Highlands to Ipoh. From Ipoh a bus to Lumut. From Lumut a ferry to the island and then a taxi to the village Teluk Nipah where our hostel was located. At the bus station in Cameron Highlands we were reunited with the Swedish couple that we had met two days before on the bus that broke. And they had same plan as ours. So we joined our forces and set off to Pulau Pangkor.
The long and tiring trip was rewarded with a gorgeous sunset, almost empty beach and a nice dinner on the very beach. There came also some locals to fish and they used a peculiar tactique to catch it. They had a big net on the boat and they left the other end of it to shore and drove a half circle with the boat back to shore with the other end. Then three men on each side started pulling it back to the shore. In the end they got only couple of fishes and one big crab.

The next day wasn’t that perfect – the weather was bad, Valeria came down with an air-con flu and we didn’t find the waterfall we were looking for. We got to witness the local gang though – the long-tailed macaques that raided the village, stealing water bottles from the scooters and drinking from them. We also saw hornbills, which were not as wild as we had thought. They were like local seagulls flying all over the village.

On the second day the sky was clear and the weather hot – a perfect beach day. So we went to the beach in the morning, snorkelling during the day and then again to the beach in the evening. In between we found the waterfall, which was a disappointment (it wasn’t really a waterfall but more like just a stream). We went snorkelling with our newly acquired Swedish friends and had great fun despite the not-so-clear water. Lars also offered Ville to join him on a jet ski and they had a good ride. Thank you guys for the company!
