We woke up at 4 am to catch a flight from Penang to Borneo and arrived in Kuching at about nine o’clock. We didn’t research how to get from the airport to Marco Polo’s guesthouse, but we were sure there would be some bus to the city. Soon enough we realized that there were no buses, only taxi. Gladly it was quite cheap (only 26 ringgits).
We met a friendly British photographer Grant while we were waiting to get our room. He was talking about going to this cave called Fairy Cave that was located about 30 km from the city. So we desided to join him and we shared a taxi with him and with a american girl Molly who was volunteering at our guesthouse. The cave was massive and surprisingly green. And yes, there were bats that made a nice soundtrack to our visit.

The next day we decided to visit the Semenggoh nature reserve, where you have the best chances to see semi-wild orangutans. They live freely in the forest, but twice a day there is a feeding hour, when some of them might come to munch on some fruits. We had luck – even though during first forty minutes nothing happened, then came three orangutans: a mother with a sweet baby orangutan and a bigger male. Especially the male looked like an deep orange big foot, all hairy. When we got back from the feeding point we saw yet another younger male.
