Noosa & Rainbow Beach

On our way up we decided to stay two nights on a campground on Boreen Point to go and check out Noosa National Park. We drove to Noosa early in the morning, and that was a good decision – later there was a desperate queue for parking. In general Noosa seemed popular with tourists, and people seemed to come there especially for surfing or other healthy activities – the hyped coastal walk was packed with runners and other outdoor enthusiasts. It was suitable for that since it was pretty wide and easy to walk, and the views to a blue ocean were soothing. We came back a different route, from where you couldn’t see the ocean. That one was pretty much empty. We went up to the Noosa Hill and enjoyed our little walk in a half-burned forest.

Being dry season it was very common to see burned trees all around. There were also forest fire warnings everywhere and sometimes officials will set part of the forest on fire on purpose to contain the fire from speading.

After the walk we went to the town to grab some lunch (super-health salads) in a local cafe and also popped quickly by the beach. Ville got a nice little swim in the ocean and Valeria got her bikini nearly stolen by a bush turkey that was raiding the beach.

A vicious bikini turkey ( a birkey) getting its name of its peculiar taste for bikinis. Natural habitat being beaches and camping areas.

On the way back to Boreen Point we stopped in the Noosa Marina, a charming little place with good coffee and pelicans.

Pelicans!

The next day we headed further north to Hervey Bay. On our way we did a little detour to Rainbow Beach, a little town named after red-shaded sand-cliffs. There we found a cool little piece of desert, aka Carlo sandblow (Carlo was one of Captain Cook’s crew members when he visited Queensland for the first time ). It was so much fun with running around and feeling so small. Some kids were also sliding down with little boards. The place was so different than anything we had come accross earlier.
