Yanchep National Park

After two nights in Perth we headed to our first destination on our way towards North – Yanchep. It turned out to be a pleasant park with a number of different walking trails. There were also a couple of caves, but only one was open to public and even there you couldn’t go without a ranger.

We decided to do a 12 km trail called Ghost house walk. The ghost house itself was pretty disappointing but we got to see some new scenery that was totally different than the one in the eastern part of the country. There was still forest, but also lower bushes and wildflowers.

We also met some locals. When we came, black cockatoos made sure they were not left unnoticed. Huge flocks lived right above our tent in the trees making awful noise. We also went to see some koalas, which are actually not native to western Australia but someone brought them in the beginning of the last century.

When we went on the trail we saw a lovely little sausage of a lizard – a blue tongued lizard. He tried hard to impress us with his scary looks but we still thought of him as cute. Later we also learned that he was one of the good guys keeping snakes away.

Finally we saw also more kangaroos. Our walk was rewarded with a couple of them in a light of the setting sun and it was perfect. Little did we know that when we come back to the camping area, there would be dozens of those munching on the easily accessible grass.

Can you find all four kangaroos on the photo?
Some more at the campsite.
