Perth and around

We visited Perth three times. First when we came from Brisbane, then on the way from northern to southern WA and last time before leaving for Nepal. And still we didn’t see much of the city. We used the time to relax, wander around, shop for some books and most important of all, enjoy some tasty dumplings in a popular local Asian restaurant.

On the way we also discovered some other places worth mentioning.

Kalbarri. On our way back from north to Perth we stopped by once again to this beautiful national park.

On the menu; canned vegetable soup with added tuna. Every meal is a feast when you add a nice view.

Down by the river.

Yep, a lizard, again.
Lesueur national park. Referred to as a botanical wonder, this particular park contained an impressive variety of wildflower species. With only few trees it was possible to see far and also enjoy the details close up on a little walking loop. There is much concern for well-being of the plants, and the soles of the shoes had to be cleaned at the dedicated stations to prevent the spread of any plant diseases.

We did a small loop around the park.

Local plant.
Swan Valley. Here we found the best beer in Australia at Feral Brewing company.  There was even a beer that Valeria liked. They had a good concept going there. It was a craft brewery that was also a restaurant serving tasty food to share. We visited there twice. Second time we came on a Saturday and the place was packed. Some had come there to enjoy a good meal with there whole family, some were on a date and some were having a bachelor party.  A place for everyone.

Tastings of beers only served at the brewery.

Fremantle. A hipster town right next to Perth. We went there to see a its weekend market. The market offered a lot of different handycrafts, restaurants and local food. We bought a kilo sack of sweet tomatoes, strawberries and a melon. After shopping food we stopped by to see a street artist performing. In the market hall there was also piano for anyone who wanted to play.

At the entrance to the market.

Pool Reserve. We spent our last two tent nights here in a national park near Dwellingup. We had two spare days between Pemberton and Perth and we just randomly chose this area. We read that it was the place where people from Perth go to escape the city life and that it had good mountain biking trails. In the end we didn’t do any mountain biking there but we did a couple of nice walking tracks along the forest and went climbing to a local Flow park called Trees Adventure.

Preparing days lunch: sweet potato and a pumpkin soup.
Morning mist.
Our campsite and the simply named day use area.
